Full Mouth Reconstruction Princeton NJ

Full Mouth Reconstruction provided by Prosthodontics of Princeton in Princeton, NJ

Dental x-ray of a full mouth from Prosthodontics of Princeton in Princeton, NJThe process of rebuilding the function and appearance of your teeth, with multiple procedures at one time, is known as a full mouth reconstruction. At Prosthodontics of Princeton we offer full mouth rehabilitation and restoration for our patients who are in need of these procedures.

There are a number of procedures involved with each patient requiring a treatment plan unique to their needs.

What Exactly Is a Full Mouth Reconstruction

The full mouth reconstruction is a series of procedures performed on a patient’s teeth and gums to restore healthy function. The goal of a full mouth reconstruction is a beautiful and functional smile. If you are missing teeth, have unhealthy gums and other oral complications, a full mouth reconstruction can help. It is important to point out that full mouth reconstruction is not simply to address aesthetics. That said, some cosmetic treatments can have a place in full mouth reconstruction.

Who Is a Candidate for Full Mouth Reconstruction?

There are several factors that could make you a good candidate for the full mouth reconstruction treatment. If you have sustained an injury that has led to damage to your mouth and the loss of teeth, a full mouth reconstruction can restore the health of your mouth. The same holds true for periodontal disease that may have led to unhealthy teeth or the loss of some or all of your teeth.

Teeth erosion - chips or cracks in the teeth - can be addressed by one or more procedures in a full mouth reconstruction. Jaw pain or recurrent headaches that result from misalignment in teeth or the jaw can also be addressed.

How Long Does the Full Mouth Reconstruction Take?

Full mouth rehabilitation will depend on the specific patient's needs, which means that it can be difficult to predict how long it will take for each individual. The best way to learn how long you can expect to be going through your reconstruction is to meet with our prosthodontist.

Procedures Involved in Full Mouth Reconstruction

The procedures used can vary between individual patients as the needs of the patient can vary. Some patients may be in need of a bone graft to strengthen the bone in their jaw. Without adequate bone in the jaw, dental implants will not be successful. Some patients may be in need of an orthodontic solution to shift teeth into the optimal positions. Adult braces like the Invisalign® system can be quite effective.

Veneers may be used to whiten, resize, reshape and close gaps between teeth. Teeth will need to be healthy prior to the placement of veneers. Dental crowns can be used to fortify a root canaled tooth but can also offer a cosmetic makeover for one or more teeth.

Gum contouring may be needed to help improve the look of your smile along with deep dental cleanings. It is important to treat gum disease as soon as it is diagnosed. Addressing it as part of a full mouth reconstruction will help to keep your mouth healthy.
